How Can I Increase Sales Online?
This is a question that eCommerce businesses are continuously asking. With good reason too, we all want to grow our eCommerce business, right? One of the first options many websites try is to increase traffic. Some common ways this is accomplished are:
- Pay per click (PPC)
- Content management
- Social media
Most eCommerce businesses are already doing most, if not all, of these and more to increase traffic. So once you have these campaigns in place, what else is there to do? How about focusing on conversion? There are so many ways to increase conversion that I am not going to list them on this post. Once you have finished reading this, you can click here for a very detailed and informative blog post on conversion rate optimization.
With so many ways to increase traffic and conversion it can be very difficult to decide which direction will increase your online sales the most. Making a decision and feeling confident about the results you will be getting can be the most difficult part.
My goal in writing this post is to help increase your revenues a different way, an avenue that will capitalize on all of the time and money you have already invested in improving your eCommerce sales through increased web traffic and conversion. eCommerce websites have millions of visitors land on their site every day and many are missing out on a group of serious, loyal and committed buyers.
Who are these buyers? They are frequent online shoppers that have addresses and payment methods that are from outside of the US, they are your international customers. These buyers are ALWAYS on eCommerce sites and they are chomping at the bit to get their hands on goods sold by a US based business.
An international customer’s average ticket amount is typically higher than those who are buying from within the US and 96% of the world’s consumers live outside of the US with more than 50% of all international inquiries go unanswered by US e-tailors. The opportunity to expand your global footprint has never been better.
While international sales present many challenges, there are a lot of options that can help eliminate barriers and enable your website to connect with the global consumers that visit your site every day. Here are some steps you can take to get headed in the right direction to go global, or to increase the international sales you are currently receiving:
- Allow international buyers to place their order on your website
- Don’t limit your international sales to Canada
- Offer more than one shipping option
- Have accurate shipping costs and quotes for international destinations
- Customize your checkout for international consumers
- Accept multiple payment methods
- Give customers multiple options to contact you regarding their order, toll free numbers do not work outside of the US and Canada.
This is a fairly simple list, for greater detail on how to improve the international buying experience on your site you can contact us, or read some of the other blog posts we have with more information on what you may be looking for.
With well over 55% of all online purchases taking place outside of the US there is no excuse to miss out on this opportunity that will continue to grow with your other efforts to increase your online sales and could possibly surpass your revenues from domestic sales. Feel free to contact us for an evaluation on your current international processes and buyer experience.
