International Trade Restrictions

Restricted International Products (RIP)

When shipping internationally one of the most important things you need to know before you ship is whether the products you are shipping are restricted in the country you are shipping to. We can help you learn the international trade restrictions, so you can save yourself time and money.

Every country’s customs departments have a website that you can view to see what products are restricted. You can also go to the carrier website and search for what is restricted in the country you are shipping to. Some items need a certificate or permission to export certain products. There are some products that are illegal to ship to their country. Weapons and Ammo are typically restricted into any country. In the case of supplements, there are certain ingredients that are not allowed or they require special certificates. Some examples of prohibited or restricted international product into certain countries are:

Australia:

Electric Cigarette – Must be shipped with an International Special Commodities Contract

Knives – The receiver has to have a permit to receive Daggers or Double-edged or sharp or pointed instruments. Also if the knife is concealable it is prohibited.

Toy Guns – Any toy gun or gun replica is prohibited.

China:

Any item that falls under the US State Department (DDTC) or ITAR controls such as any item that could be considered a military item, such as any Military aircraft parts, Night Vision goggles, any equipment used for military training.

Used electronic equipment or machinery

Gambling Devices

Jewelry that is made of gold or diamonds requires an import license from the Bank of China and must be cleared by a customs authorized agent in the Shanghai Diamond exchange.

Weapons – Any item that can be considered an assault type, military, or martial arts item are prohibited. These items include throwing stars, brass knuckles, blowguns, pepper spray slingshots, to name a few.

Canada:

Baby walkers cannot be imported

Paintball guns or markers and Airsoft guns – You must be approved through International Special

Commodity (ISC) Program as a special Exception.

As you can see it is very important that you do some research before you ship any item that you feel may be in question. By doing this, you will eliminate the chances that your product will be seized or held by customs.

For a complete listing of prohibited or restricted items, you can go visit your shipping carrier’s website and review their Import/ Export Country Regulations.
